Positive Word: Achievement
Words are powerful. Saying to yourself that something is achievable is far more rewarding than saying that something is un-achievable…
Achieving personal goals is one of the most important things a human can do and should strive to do. The flush of emotion and the high we gain after completing a task provides us with a huge momentum which drives us forward to complete further tasks. Knowing that we can achieve, encourages us to stretch ourselves and maybe do more that we set out to do.
In order to start feeling the sense of achievement you need to set an achievable goal. You may have heard many times from TV and business to ‘think big, act small’. There’s some truth to it, completing small tasks with a larger goal in mind helps you to stay focused.
This series for example, is a small step towards the grand goal of having a ‘Positive words that start with’ A-Z series. Beginning with positive words that start with A, I can begin to peel apart the rest of the alphabet, hoping to inspire others along my journey of being a more positive person.
However, sometimes starting is the hard part…
Words of wisdom
Not too long ago, my father gave me some words of wisdom. He compared the struggles of moving a broken down car to the struggles of completing tasks. He told me that the hardest part of getting the car moving is the start. Achieving goals is the same, you need to take action, put your hands and your energy into the work you do and get that car moving.
You have my sympathies if you have a goal you wish to achieve but don’t believe that you are capable of doing it. I can say to you ‘believe in yourself!’ 100 times but I cannot force your hand to start achieving and get the car moving.
Do understand, there’s no shame in being fearful. I too am afraid of whether this list of positive words will be complete. Sometimes starting something, not knowing what the outcome can be is a scary experience. Just know that once you start things can only get easier.
When you do achieve a goal
Never disregard an achieved goal. Celebrate it. Don’t believe it’s just a ‘thing’ or a ‘small goal’. Each goal achieved, should be celebrated. I have found that when I believed that an achieved goal wasn’t ‘great’ or ‘perfect’, my momentum slows down and future attempts at achievement don’t have the same energy. If you put down your own achievements all the time then you will never feel like you have ever achieved anything?
The attitude for achievement is all about self belief. Without having the confidence in yourself to achieve your goals it can be very challenging to even start a project. To help get you get started on feeling a sense of achievement, write down all the things you intend to do today, or if it’s late right now then write down a few things for tomorrow. Make sure it’s on a piece of paper. As you complete the tasks physically cross them off.
Try doing this for the whole week. It doesn’t matter if the task is ‘get out of bed’. As you begin to cross items off the list and it’s completed you will begin to get that little high I mentioned earlier. Once thats done for the week, think bigger. Think of something that you have wanted to do but held off. Write down small tasks that will help you reach your goal. Then go out there and do it.
Important: Remember celebrate once the list has been completed. Give yourself some time, read some more pages on this website :), buy that item you’ve always wanted to buy but held off because you were ‘too busy’. Soon you will start to feel better and your attitude and self confidence will begin to change.
Here is an affirmation for you:
I am an achiever. When I start a task I will complete it to the best of my ability. I believe in myself even when others don’t. I will achieve what I have set out to do and will feel proud once I have reached my target.
