Here are some compassion examples, showing ways you can be compassionate to those closest to you. Use each day to show others you care because demonstrating compassion is important.
1. Show Empathy
Remember how you felt and what someone said to comfort you. If you haven’t been in the same situation, try and step into their shoes to get a better idea of how they are feeling. Use your knowledge of the problem to help them through it.
2. Check in on friends
No man is an island – John Donne
It is always good to check up on those closest to you. Not every friend will reach out to you when they need help, so make an effort every now and then to pick up the phone or send a heartfelt message to find out how your friends are doing.
There have been times when a text message or a phone call, have saved a life. Be sure to stay updated with friends living both close by and distant.
Giving a hand to those in need is a great way to show compassion. Help isn’t only needed by those who are sick or homeless. It can be planting trees in your community, helping out at an after school club or just getting involved in community projects.
4. Give someone a hug
Sometimes providing a loving touch can be just as good as giving words of kindness. The next time someone close to you is in need of love, try putting your arm around them or giving them a hug. It can make all the difference.
One of the best examples of compassion in everyday life is listening. There are many ways to comfort someone, and when you listen and pay attention to someone else’s needs you are showing them great compassion.
By listening to a friend’s problems you can get a better understanding of whats wrong. The more attentively you listen, the better equipped you will be to give great advice.
6. Get others involved
If you find yourself doing an activity and you see others are being left out, try and get them involved. It can be hard to reach out to others who you may not know, but by doing so you many gain a new friend.
7. Be encouraging
Another great example of compassion is encouraging those who need some motivation. Provide some words of motivation to someone and watch them work harder and perform better.
Now you don’t have to shake Pom Poms or be a cheerleader, but saying encouraging words when people need it the most, can push others to succeed.
8. Bond with others
Developing a close bond with someone goes a long way in life. Whether it be your partner or close friend, having someone to rely on and be compassionate to helps improve bonds further. With so many wonderful people in the world, why experience life alone?
9. Love yourself
Showing compassion for yourself is harder than showing it for others. Sometimes we find ourselves giving so much of our love away that we forget to spend the time loving ourselves. Make sure to dedicate a few hours a week to yourself and be sure to never put yourself down when things go wrong.
Instead of criticising, provide yourself structured solutions to your problems. By loving yourself you may find additional strength in being compassionate to others.
10. Challenge yourself!
Demonstrating compassion is important. Don’t just read this guide, if you get an opportunity to show compassion, take it. You may never have the chance again to brighten up that person’s day.
