I was in a store a few days ago that magically organised furniture within lots of rooms. Each room was designed differently from the next. As I was navigating my way through the maze of both rooms and people, I realised that the store was designed to help the customer visualise owning the different products by making each room feel like a home away from home.
I even found myself caught up in the ‘visual sales pitch’ by lying on one of the beds, looking up at the warehouse-like ceiling, imagining what it would be like to have my own studio apartment.
It fascinated me that the hordes of people within this store, had their own ideas of what they wanted their ideal home to look like. Some clearly had no idea at all, but was still engaged, hopping from room to room looking for something they could relate to. Is that how visualisation works? We create images of what we want in life and then attempt to pursue it with the hope that one day we will have what we desire?
If each room could be seen as a different goal we would like to achieve in life, then it will take more than visualisation to have all the items in the room. Perhaps the image could act as something to focus on, so that all our energy is placed attempting to achieve this one goal. I believe, that the pursuit of a goal does have to start with some sort of visual image, but that image alone may not be enough to carry us over the line.
I have found that visualisations do work, but only if you are willing to put the effort in to make your dreams become reality. Every business ever started, began with someone visualising what it should look like. However, without the grind there can be no successful business.
Let me know if visualisations have worked for you and how you go about visualisation your dreams and goals.
